Dear friends and supporters,
May I again say 'thank you' to all of you who continue to support Consumers for Health Choice in our
campaigns to keep supplements available. We never ever take you for granted – and we are extremely grateful for what you do and for what you are able to give.
You will know that, as reported in my last E-message to you, that there has been much misinformation
spread recently, not only to retailers and consumers – but also to those who represent us in the British and European Parliaments.
As a result, some very unhelpful questions are being tabled, especially in Brussels, which are counter to the actions needed to protect the British specialist market and to keep supplements in meaningful doses available to consumers.
It is now essential for CHC to undertake a number of meetings in Brussels in May and June to
deal with a variety of issues:-
We know some global companies have been lobbying hard to get MPLs introduced now even though the position of France and Germany remains the same in wanting low doses to be set.
This has caused concern and confusion among MEPs from several different Member States, including some of our supporters who now mistakenly think they are helping by pushing for levels to be set.
We urgently need to engage to remove the confusion and get MEPs back onside before the Commission moves ahead.
We will be targeting UK and Irish MEPs in particular, but also those from other Member States on the key Environment Committee and the Internal Market Committee who are involved in the decision making process.
This builds upon the proactive campaign we have been waging for the last few months of getting thousands of supporters across Europe to write to MEPs.
This will necessitate at least two CHC people going to Brussels for 2-3 days. Such vital activity is outside existing CHC funding and we are now seeking sponsors who would help meet these costs. We anticipate that each trip will cost around £2,500 – which includes all the required preparation, briefing packs, hotels and travel etc.
Can you help us please by making a small donation?
It would help us enormously is you could slightly pave the way for us as the time for our visits approaches by reminding MEPs about the food supplements legislation. All Europeans can join in – we need letters to MEPs representing every Member State explaining that the loss of higher dose vitamin & mineral supplements would damage the health of the nation, and in addition, if the Commission decides to set restrictive levels then they would have a major adverse impact on consumer choice, consumer protection, small businesses and jobs – right across the EU.
You can find the names of your MEPs via this link: www.europarl.org.uk/section/your-meps/your-meps
All the information you need is on our website. You can download a draft letter to MEPs from the website. You can also download a Briefing-Note specially prepared for MEPs to explain the background to the legislation and the need for urgent action. It's all there – so please do take a look – then take action!
It is important to remind everyone that it is only the Consumer Voice that can deliver sustained pressure when and where it matters. That is the basic foundation without which no other campaign will be successful.
Finally, this is how you can continue to help.
Your friends and family, all consumers, retailers, practitioners and others all have a part to play and I
urge you once again to seek their support.
1. As soon as you can, visit our website and download the new MEP draft letter and new MEP Briefing Note and send it to one or more of your MEPs. www.consumersforhealthchoice.com
2. Have you and your friends signed our Petition? Please encourage them to add their names if not.
3. Can you join those already generous consumers by making a donation to keep the campaign going and help us get to Brussels please? Any amount you can manage will help make a difference. Thank you. The on-line donation system is quick, simple and safe.
4. One final thing – please forward this note to your own contacts, both in the UK and Europe, asking them to also take action as we have suggested, particularly to write to their own MEPs.
Thank you again so very much for anything you can give and for everything you are doing and I look forward to hearing from you. I know you understand how this is so important for us all.
Very best wishes
